JOB SUMMARY
Battelle is seeking a junior Semiconductor Materials Engineer. This position is located in Columbus, OH.
Battelle’s Cyber team in Columbus, OH is looking for a Semiconductor Materials Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary team, bringing together the brightest minds in Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and more. The team works to develop, evaluate, and test unique physical and embedded security solutions for our clients. The successful candidate will enjoy hands-on lab work developing outside of the box solutions with custom semiconductor failure analysis methods.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or related field of study and (2-5) years of experience; a Master’s degree in a relevant field and (0-2) years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education/experience in a relevant field.
- Hands on experience in semiconductor device sample preparation (i.e.- sectioning, polishing, depackaging, delayering, plasma etching, wet chemical processing)
- Experience in the following semiconductor physical failure analysis techniques for materials characterization, electrical, and/or structural characterization: focused ion beam (FIB), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), light microscopy.
- Intellectual curiosity and a passion for science and technology
- Must be a US Citizen and be willing and able to obtain a DoD Top Secret/SCI security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree with (2) or more years equivalent work experience in one of the following fields: Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics; or an equivalent combination of education/experience in a relevant field.
- Experience in the following semiconductor characterization techniques: energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray computed tomography (XCT)
- Familiarity with semiconductor and device physics, integrated circuits, and/or microelectronics hardware
- Experience in tool maintenance, repairs, and laboratory management/safety oversight.
- Strong bench skills, including digital and analog circuit prototyping, application-specific test & measurement instrument design.
- Experience in reverse engineering, verification and validation, and/or device processing for fabrication of integrated circuits
- Experience designing, constructing, and automating custom test instrumentation.
- Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or C# for engineering solutions
- Active DoD Top Secret/SCI Clearance
