Our systems provide real-time data, remote management, and reporting tools to empower businesses as they grow. We’re a small, talented team working across various industries, driving security management to be more efficient and accessible. This remote-based role offers flexibility, with access to Paxton’s modern offices in Brighton and manufacturing facilities in Eastbourne. So, what are the benefits? Private medical insurance (opt-in) and healthcare cash-back plan with Health Shield. Discounted fitness memberships of up to 75% off in your area with GymFlex. Tech, bike, and travel/season ticket loans. 25 days of holiday plus bank holidays, with the option to buy or sell up to 5 days annually. The salary range for this position is £30,000 - £40,000 (Based on experience and skills). About the role Join our team as a Junior Software Engineer where you’ll work on a mix of new and existing software systems, helping us deliver practical, reliable solutions in the security industry, while contributing to real projects and developing your skills across the full software stack. Develop code to meet project requirements, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and collaborating with the design team to deliver high-quality software. Provide technical support to Gendis customers by responding to product and software-related queries via phone, email and teams. Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather and refine requirements, to create accurate functional specifications and technical documentation to support development. Follow the Gendis processes, ensuring all code is aligned with our quality and style guidelines and that our workflows for testing and quality checks are strictly adhered to. Contribute to the design and evolution of our software architecture, offering input and recommendations that support scalability, performance, and maintainability. Investigate software defects and implement effective and timely remediation, ensuring minimal disruption to service and delivery timelines. Engage in code reviews, maintaining high standards of code quality through consistent participation, both providing and receiving detailed, constructive feedback. Participate in monthly on-site meetings to discuss projects, address issues, support decision-making, and test relevant equipment as needed. Take ownership of personal and professional development by identifying skill gaps and seeking appropriate support or learning opportunities. Contribute to the out-of-hours support rota on a rotational basis (around once every seven weeks) to ensure continued customer support. Ensure all products comply with relevant regional legislation and standards, working with internal teams to embed compliance into design and delivery. What you’ll bring… Some experience or qualifications in software engineering discipline or a similar technical discipline. Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively. Adaptability, organisation, and a willingness to take ownership of your development and work. Ability to work independently and stay self-motivated in a remote environment, proactively seeking support, learning opportunities, and regular collaboration with the wider team. What we’re looking for... Basic proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, Angular). Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows. Ability to contribute to software across multiple areas, including front-end, back-end, database, and DevOps tasks. Willingness to occasionally travel to Eastbourne/Brighton for on-site meetings and testing. Please note: This role has a planned start date for January 2026. This is a remote role, and as part of a small and collaborative team, you’ll join regular meetups at Paxton’s Eastbourne Manufacturing Centre. These sessions give you hands-on access to products and a chance to connect in person with colleagues. Outside of that, you’ll work from home, so you’ll need access to development tools and a suitable workspace. The right attitude is more important to us than your skills or experience. If you’re excited about a role but your existing experience doesn’t match up with every element of the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. If you are unsure, reach out to the recruitment team for career advice. We want to collaborate with you and hear your ideas, most of all, we want you to enjoy the journey with us.
