POSITION OVERVIEW
Salary range: Exempt: A reasonable estimate for this position is $55,000 at Step 1 or $58,600 at Step 2.
Non- Exempt: A reasonable estimate for this position is $26.35/hr at Step 1 or $28.07/hr at Step 2.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Department of Neurology at the University of California, Davis invites applications for a qualified part-time Junior Specialist in neurophysiology.
The junior specialist will work directly with Drs. John Olichney (20%), Sheela Toprani (15%), and Caren Armstrong (10%) on preparing for, administering, and preliminarily processing data of brain evoked response studies in patients with Epilepsy or Alzheimer’s Disease.
This position will also provide hands-on support, recording and analysis for EEG projects (mostly intracranial data), which will include reviewing brain anatomy of co-registered CT-MRI showing intracranial electrode locations, preparing for stimulation studies by localizing electrodes and assisting with ordering them for stimulation, carrying out brain electrical stimulation protocols with Dr. Armstrong or Toprani, including annotating and summarizing findings, and performing data pre-processing. Pre-processing skills required include event extraction, time-frequency analysis, event related potential analysis, phase-locking analysis and network coherence analysis. Relatedly, this position will help maintain the labs’ analysis pipelines and codebase. Familiarity with various computer environments (Windows, Mac OSX), coding skills (Matlab, R, Python), and codebase repositories (Github) are essential. Previous work with electrophysiological data is a plus.
The selected candidate will be expected to contribute to academic publications published in peer-reviewed journals, participate in lab meetings and attend relevant talks/meetings. The junior specialist will be expected to provide mentorship to undergraduate research assistants that rotate through the lab thus the ideal candidate should possess strong communication and decision-making skills, a strong interest in Neuroscience and must be able to work well independently and as part of a team.
