Description K-2 Reading & Math Intervention Teacher Kansas City, MO Description PRIMARY PURPOSE: Under the direction of the K-2 principal, the Reading and Math Intervention Teacher will implement the District and school philosophy, goals, objectives and activities relating to all programs and policies of the assignment. The Reading and Math Intervention Teacher is responsible for providing direct instruction individually or in small groups to ensure student learning and academic success in reading and math. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following (other duties may be assigned): Supports K-5 teachers in the appropriate identification of students in Grade K through Grade 2 needing reading and/or math intervention Provides one-on-one and small group reading instruction to students needing reading or math intervention Works with classroom teachers to push in to the class for reading and math support, as needed Plans and uses appropriate, research-based instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of identified students in the area of reading Uses assessment data to drive instructional decisions on a daily basis Develops and implements daily lesson plans and small group activities, consistent with Missouri State standards and current research methodology Provides students with specific evaluative feedback Communicates effectively with students, teachers and parents Assists teachers with assessment of students to identify students who are academically at risk in the area of reading or math Demonstrates responsibilities including, but not limited to; parent communication, data collection, attendance at meetings, and enforcement of discipline standards Reports to: K-2 Building Principal Benefits: Retirement Program, Health, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance are available. Requirements POSSESS KNOWLEDGE OF: Effective strategies to teach reading skills and comprehension strategies to struggling upper elementary grade students Instructional needs students who are identified as “at risk for a reading deficiency” Planning, designing and implementing effective, research-based differentiated intervention lessons in academic content areas Multiple approaches to instruction and assessment District data reporting and tracking systems The use of technology in the delivery of curriculum and in the management of student data and assessment MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Elementary Teaching Certificate That Includes KDG Through 2nd Grades Reading Endorsement or Masters in Reading - Preferred but not required Trained in identifying students that show signs of reading failure Trained in identifying students that show signs of math deficiencies
