MŌ TĒNEI TŪRANGA MAHI | ABOUT THIS POSITION

“Tuia te tamaiti ki ngā aka taumatua, kaua e tuia ki ngā aka taepa. Me aro ki te hā o te aka taumatua.”
We are seeking a passionate and experienced kaiako to join our whānau, in Ngā Kete o Te Ao Māori, with experience in teaching English across NCEA Levels 1-3. This is an exciting opportunity to nurture and develop ākonga in their journey through te ao Māori, while contributing to the preservation and advancement of Māori performing arts and culture in Te Aka Taumatua through teaching and resource development.
Te Aka Taumatua is a new team that leads our bilingual and immersion te reo Māori provision for full-time, tamariki, rangatahi and dual registered ākonga at Te Kura. Te Aka Taumatua is still in its developmental stage but remains focussed on its role in the revitalisation of te reo Māori, to offer comprehensive options grounded in mātauranga Māori for ākonga and their whānau.
Te Aka Taumatua is a vine system that wraps around rākau. The vines carry the knowledge and wisdom of our people. It is a place that protects, nurtures and gives room to grow. One can come to seek shelter and safety and can then leave to go.
This role presents an opportunity to shape the next generation of young Māori leaders while contributing to the revitalization of te reo Māori and preservation of Māori performing arts. The successful candidate will join a supportive whānau committed to excellence in Māori education.

In this role you will:

  • Support ākonga to engage deeply in learning that is aligned with their goals, passions and interests.
  • Facilitate regular huinga ako (online and face-to-face) to provide pastoral care, connection, and personalised learning
  • Provide constructive feedback and feedforward on ākonga learning
  • Collaborate with colleagues and whānau to create flexible, engaging learning experiences
