JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE:              KAUHALE HOUSING CUSTODIAN                               RESPONSIBLE TO:            Program Director/Manager or Designee          FLSA STATUS:                    Non-Exempt POSITION GOALS: To maintain the cleanliness of the facility and to perform minor maintenance functions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION 1. Vacuum upstairs hallways, basement corridors and offices. 2. Sweep & mop all tile floors in the facility. 3. Empty all trash receptacles and replace trash bags. 4. Clean & sanitize all bathrooms (sweep, mop, wash walls, toilets, stalls mirrors & fixtures. 5. Keep toilet paper, towel and soap dispensers filled. 6. Stock custodial closets on all floors with paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, etc. and inform the Program Director/Manager or Designee when supplies are needed. 7. Empty mop buckets and put all tools away. 8. Hose down the alley/driveways as needed (minimum of once a week). 9. Clean dining room tables after breakfast and lunch & wash walls periodically. 10. Replace light bulbs as needed. 11. Clean and dust fans.  Keep air conditioner filters clean. 12. Perform minor maintenance/repairs: plumbing fixtures, painting and electrical. 13. Assist with stripping, waxing & buffing floors (may operate industrial cleaning equipment). 14. Report any maintenance requirements to the Program Director/Manager or Designee. 15. Performs other related duties as assigned by Management/Supervisory staff. CORE EXPECTATIONS 16. Customer Service. QUALIFICATIONS Expectations:  To assist people with psychiatric disabilities ranging from transitional issues such as anxiety and depression, to life-long, serious mental illness; e.g., schizophrenia; bi-polar disorders; and behaviors that may involve psychosis (i.e., hearing voices; visual hallucinations; delusions, etc.).   To facilitate stressful situations and emotional conflicts with persons served and other stakeholders as part of your job. Education & Experience: Minimum Qualifications:  High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred Qualifications:  Two (2) years of custodial and/or building maintenance experience. Professional/Personal Skills:  Ability to serve as a positive mentor for adults with mental illness needing assistance with daily living skills and community acceptance. Desirable characteristics include tolerance in crisis or stressful situations; able to work as part of a team, good interpersonal and problem-solving skills; flexibility; good oral written and communication skills. LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: If applicable for the position and/or location: * Criminal Background Check * Health Clearance * High school diploma or equivalent and/or official College Transcripts (mailed from the school directly to MHK) * Current CPR & First Aid Certificates * Current TB Clearance or TB X-Ray (two-step TB Clearance is required for TLP location) PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
