Description
Mental Health Kokua (MHK) is hiring a Kauhale Intake Specialist to support residents entering the Kauhale supportive housing community at the Iwilei Center on Oahu. This role serves as the first point of contact for new residents and plays an important role in helping individuals transition safely and respectfully into housing and supportive services. In this role, you will guide new residents through the intake process, confirm eligibility and documentation, and coordinate with care teams to ensure each individual begins their housing journey with the support and resources they need. What You’ll Do (Responsibilities) * Screening & Documentation: Confirm eligibility, collect required paperwork, and upload records to NextStep * Resident Orientation: Explain program expectations, introduce staff, and provide tours of the Kauhale community * Team Coordination: Work with care teams to schedule assessments and communicate safety considerations * Resource Support: Assist residents with benefits enrollment and community resource referrals * Data Management: Maintain accurate entries in HMIS and NextStep while ensuring file confidentiality * Safety Monitoring: Observe residents for signs of distress or crisis and follow emergency protocols when needed * Client Transitions: Complete intake and exit documentation according to established procedures Intake Specialist Qualifications * Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent, plus 2 years in behavioral health, housing, or social services * Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or related field; experience with HMIS or NextStep data systems * Current TB clearance, CPR, and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain) * Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening * Able to lift up to 25 lbs and respond to facility-related needs Requirements & Work Conditions * Ability to work assigned schedules in a community-based supportive housing environment * Work involves standing, walking, and occasional lifting * Work takes place in a residential supportive housing setting serving adults with mental health challenges Benefits of Joining MHK * Medical & Vision Insurance (UHA or Kaiser) * Dental Insurance (HDS) * Supplemental & Pet Insurance * 403(b) Retirement Plan * Identity Theft & Legal Protection * Paid Leave & Holiday Pay * Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) eligibility Why Choose Mental Health Kokua?
