SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enrolled in an Engineering degree program at an accredited Canadian university
  • A valid driver’s license required
  • Your most recent unofficial transcript(s) must be submitted with your application

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE

  • Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering program at an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Returning to full-time studies after the work term
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to work in a remote site environment
  • Previous job experience will be seen as an asset, especially in related industries
  • Open to occasional trips to the Kearl mine site if required, including overnight stays in camp

Both our Mine Maintenance team and Site wide Services Team at Kearl are currently seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineering student for a term position, where you’ll contribute to the safe and reliable operation of critical equipment while learning from experienced professionals.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

As a Mechanical Engineering Student, you will have the opportunity to contribute to either the Mine Maintenance Team or the Site Wide Services Team, supporting critical operations that ensure the reliability, safety, and efficiency of site-wide systems and heavy equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Depending on your placement, your responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with maintenance planning, execution strategies, and reliability improvement initiatives for heavy mining equipment and fixed plant assets.
  • Participating in equipment inspections, data collection, and root cause analysis to support asset performance.
  • Collaborating with engineers, technicians, tradespeople, and cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement and safety initiatives.
  • Engaging with stakeholders across operations, maintenance, technical, and construction groups to identify and implement facility and process improvements.
  • Supporting engineering studies, economic analyses, and the development of project plans, including cost and schedule estimates.
  • Providing input on design troubleshooting, consulting on operating problems, and overseeing aspects of detailed design, construction, and commissioning for small projects.
