JOB SUMMARY The Kennel Attendant is responsible for animal care, husbandry, and operational support, including ability to travel to shelters to pick up animals, as well as assisting with cleaning after veterinary events. This role ensures a clean, safe, and organized environment, adhering to organizational policies and procedures. Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet business needs, including working evenings, weekends, and holidays. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE SKILLS & ABILITIES Education High school diploma or equivalent required Experience Previous experience working in a kennel, animal shelter, or veterinary environment (preferred). Experience handling and caring for animals in a professional setting. Basic knowledge of animal behavior, health, and nutrition. SKILLS & ABILITIES Animal Care & Handling Ability to safely and humanely handle animals of various sizes and temperaments. Knowledge of animal health, nutrition, and administering medications. Ability to recognize signs of illness or distress in animals and report appropriately. Sanitation & Maintenance Ability to perform cleaning, disinfecting, and basic maintenance tasks in animal care areas. Understanding of hygiene standards and biosecurity protocols in a veterinary or shelter environment. Transportation & Driving Familiarity with safe animal transport protocols. Communication & Customer Service Strong verbal communication skills to interact with staff, clients, and the public. Ability to provide courteous and professional service during animal care interactions and client inquiries. Ability to follow instructions, complete tasks independently, and work collaboratively within a team. Physical Stamina & Flexibility Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds, including carrying animals, supplies, and equipment. Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays. Ability to remain on your feet for extended periods, with frequent bending, kneeling, and lifting required. JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES Animal Care & Husbandry Assist in ensuring the well-being of animals remains the top priority. Monitor animal health and promptly report any concerns. Assist with animal examinations by restraining animals for vaccinations and medical treatment. Support temperament evaluations and provide enrichment opportunities for animals. Transportation Assist in transportation to and from both local and out-of-state shelters via vehicle for the pickup of animals, ensuring safe handling and adherence to transport protocols. Sanitation & Maintenance Clean and disinfect animal wards, cages, and outdoor spaces. Maintain cleanliness in kennel areas throughout the day and after veterinary events. Perform minor repairs to cages, runs, and equipment, including changing heating filters, lightbulbs, and cleaning drains. Operations & Logistical Support Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with organizational standards. Assist Veterinary Technicians in treatment, documentation, and medical evaluations. Manage inventory, stock supplies, and maintain necessary equipment for shelter operations. Ensure safety and compliance by reporting violations or safety hazards. Customer Service Provide professional and courteous service to both internal teams and external clients. Assist with telephone inquiries when necessary, ensuring positive customer relations. Support animal pick-ups and processing, including organizing records for the return or transfer of animals. Other Duties Perform additional tasks as needed to support veterinary events, maintain operations, and provide exemplary care for animals.
