SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and highly organised Key Worker to join our residential childcare team. You will work closely with children and young people aged 8–17 who have experienced trauma, supporting them to heal, grow, and achieve positive outcomes. This role requires excellent relationship-building skills, a commitment to safeguarding, and strong written abilities to maintain accurate and comprehensive records.
As a Key Worker, you will take a lead role in supporting allocated young people, ensuring their individual care plans are followed, progress is monitored, and goals are achieved. You will work within a nurturing and structured environment, providing guidance, stability, and encouragement while promoting independence and life skills.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Proven experience working with children or young people, ideally in a residential setting.
  • Strong written communication skills and attention to detail for record-keeping and reporting.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and behaviour management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Resilient, patient, and committed to supporting young people’s long-term development.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) is highly desirable, or willingness to work towards this qualification.
  • A valid driving licence is preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the main point of contact for allocated young people, developing trusting relationships and ensuring their needs are met.
  • Supervise and engage children in safe, stimulating, and age-appropriate activities that support personal growth.
  • Prepare and update detailed care plans, progress reports, and daily logs, maintaining accurate written records at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and external professionals regarding the child’s wellbeing and progress.
  • Support behaviour management strategies to encourage positive choices and social skills.
  • Assist with daily routines including education, meals, leisure, and bed time.
  • Escort and supervise children during appointments, activities, and outings.
  • Monitor and report any safeguarding concerns in line with policy.
