JOB DESCRIPTION

You will be responsible for administrative Information Governance activities for information in any medium held by ONS and UKSA. Information Governance role holders work within an information legislation culture in support of The Public Records Act, UK GDPR, Data Protection Act (DPA) 2018 and The Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Information Governance role holders support internal stakeholders such as Information Asset Owners (IAOs), Information Asset Liaison Officers (IALOs), Data Custodians, data governance role holders, Data Protection Officers, directors, Senior Civil Servants and the Accounting Officer.

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Application of information management and information/data asset management (thereafter referred to as ‘asset management’) good practice and standards, including full understanding of current ONS/UKSA retention, archiving and disposal policies.
  • Oversight of asset management processes for all media throughout their lifecycle, ensuring metadata fields are accurately completed and regularly validated.
  • Regular reporting on asset management, including provision of monthly metrics, quarterly and ad-hoc reviews as required by stakeholders, and annual reporting for directors for escalation to the relevant governance board or Accounting Officer where required.
  • Understanding the different business requirements for registering assets and the associated metadata standards.
  • Operating within, and contributing to, development of the corporate Metadata Framework.
  • Ensuring asset registers and/or data catalogues are developed in line with technology advancement and meet on-going stakeholder needs.
  • Developing procedures for information handling, taking into account the organisation’s risk management approach, e.g., produce guidance on labelling data for sharing purposes.
  • Providing advice on effective handling of assets in accordance with the relevant policy and legislative framework.
  • Maintain appropriate knowledge of data governance role holders within the organisation and their responsibilities.
  • Responsibility for management of access control lists for starters, movers and leavers relating to asset management activities.
  • Responding to all support requests, such as asset ownership or asset management.
  • Development and delivery of training and guidance on asset management, including monitoring compliance rates with mandated learning activity.
  • Stakeholder engagement to ensure services are understood and promoted across business areas.
