REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in packaging design/development—preferably in retail, POP, or CPG environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of packaging materials, structural design, and prototyping.
  • Proficiency in CAD platforms such as ArtiosCAD, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with industry testing standards (e.g., ISTA, ASTM).
  • Understanding of production and fulfillment operations, including hand assembly and automation.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills, with a collaborative mindset.
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems and adapt designs based on performance data and field feedback.
  • Passion for innovation, sustainability, and improving the end-user experience.

Responsibilities

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Kit Packing / Packaging Engineer Role plays a critical role in the design, development, and optimization of packaging solutions for multi-SKU product kits in a retail environment. This role ensures packaging integrity, cost-efficiency, and brand alignment from manufacturing through final retail delivery—with a strong focus on sustainability, protection, and an elevated unboxing experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and engineer packaging for product kits using CAD software (e.g., ArtiosCAD, SolidWorks, AutoCAD) to meet structural, aesthetic, and functional requirements.
  • Develop packout instructions and kitting strategies to streamline assembly, reduce errors, and enhance in-store or customer-facing presentation.
  • Manage Excel documentation and collaborate cross-functionally with creative teams, R&D, logistics, and vendors to ensure alignment of design with operational and branding goals.
  • Conduct feasibility analyses, material testing, and durability simulations (ISTA, ASTM) to ensure packaging protects contents through transit and display.
  • Evaluate packaging performance and iterate based on test results, vendor feedback, and customer insights.
  • Integrate sustainable materials and practices into packaging solutions that support ESG and corporate responsibility goals.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and retailer standards, particularly for POP, PDQ, and display-ready kits.
  • Analyze costs, reduce waste, and improve efficiency throughout the packaging and fulfillment workflow.
  • Support troubleshooting during packaging trials, production runs, or field execution.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in packaging innovation, recommending materials or systems that drive improvement in the kit-packing process.
