OVERVIEW

Cafe Oasis is based at Sutton Coldfield United Reformed Church in the heart of Sutton Coldfield. We offer a safe, friendly environment for all to enjoy a fresh, home-made meal and we pride ourselves on the services and prices we offer.
Our team consists mostly of volunteers, some of whom have special needs, and they assist us daily with various roles in the kitchen and front of house.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team in a paid capacity as Assistant Chef/Kitchen Assistant.
Normal Café opening hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9am till 3pm, although hours can change depending on the needs of the Cafe.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake all aspects of kitchen duties from shopping, setting up the kitchen/cafe, preparing food, cooking home-made meals from basic ingredients, to serving customers and cleaning up at the end of each session..

REQUIREMENTS

• Proven experience in a kitchen environment, preferably within a Cafe or catering setting.
• Strong culinary skills with a passion for cooking and food presentation.
• Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in food handling.
• Excellent time management skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Prior experience in meal preparation and serving is highly desirable.

• Ensure all food hygiene practices and policies are met to the highest standards and that the cleanliness of the kitchen is maintained – Food Hygiene certificate and Allergens awareness required.
• Understand the daily paperwork and legal requirements to meet food hygiene standards.
• DBS Certificate will be required.
• Ability to prepare a range of dishes and meals from basic ingredients
• Make suggestions regarding dishes for the ‘Seasonal’ and ‘Specials’ menu
• Assist as required with menu and pricing for one off events
• Ability to work well within a team, however, shows initiative to be able to make decisions.
• Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining the highest standards of hygiene, efficiency and kitchen safety.
• Ensure the kitchen is clean, legal and safe for any inspection (internal or external).
• To have knowledge of COSSH and an awareness of chemicals used within the kitchen.
• To be able to work with volunteers of all ages and different needs.
• Have the knowledge and confidence to help customers with dietary and allergy questions if required.
• Support the Kitchen Manager in maintaining the efficient operation of the Café and supervising the work of volunteers.
