WAGE RANGE: $18.00-$18.40/hour
JOB SUMMARY: Catholic Charities is seeking an experienced commercial kitchen/large volume kitchen individual who is compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally aware to work as a Kitchen Assistant at its St Paul Opportunity Center location.
ONE YEAR OF FOOD SERVICE EXPERIENCE IN COMMERCIAL KITCHEN/LARGE VOLUME KITCHEN REQUIRED
Under the direction of the on-site Chef/Supervisor, this individual is responsible for assisting in and maintaining the Food Service areas. These areas include, but are not limited to, dishwashing, floor cleaning, equipment and area cleaning, sanitizing and maintaining the kitchen, and proper receiving and storage of incoming product.
They will assist Chef and Volunteers in maintaining the kitchen, dining room and all food, small wares and equipment storage areas and organization of same.
The position includes the ability to interact and provide good customer service to Catholic Charities clients and volunteers, and maintain a good working relationship with shelter, housing and program staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERTISE:
- High school graduate or equivalent required.
- One year of food service experience in large volume kitchen required.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working with diverse client population.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule with weekends.
- Must have ServSafe Food Handlers’ certification or must complete ServSafe food handlers’ certification within 90 days of employment
- Ability to work with diverse and/or low-income populations, including those who may be experiencing homelessness, unstable housing, and/or mental illness required.

Responsibilities:
- Must be able to operate commercial dishwashing equipment, and three sink cleaning and sanitizing equipment.
- Proper usage of Chemicals in equipment and areas, as trained.
- Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen and the dining room area.
- Assists in stocking of food supplies, including stocking and rotating of food in all storage areas.
- Holidays and weekends may be required.
- Responsible for completing required trainings, attending workshops, and staff development as coordinated with supervisor for ongoing development of job-related skills.
- Assists in the responsibility of kitchen maintenance, security of equipment and product, health and safety standards, and procedures in accordance with health department standards.
- Responsible for washing and putting away dishes, pots and pans, and other small wares.
- Assisting with dining room set-up and breakdown, as well as server set-up and breakdown.
- Responsible for completing any required checklists.
- May serve meals when needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
