WAGE RANGE:  $19.00-$21/hour JOB SUMMARY: Catholic Charities is seeking an experienced commercial kitchen/large volume kitchen individual who is compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally aware to work as a Kitchen Assistant at its St Paul Opportunity Center location. *** One year of food service experience in commercial kitchen/large volume kitchen required *** Catholic Charities is seeking an experienced commercial kitchen / large-volume kitchen professional who is compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally aware to serve as a Kitchen Assistant at the St. Paul Opportunity Center. Under the direction of the on-site Chef/Supervisor, this individual assists in and maintains the Food Service areas — including dishwashing, floor cleaning, equipment and area sanitizing, and proper receiving and storage of incoming products. They support the Chef and Volunteers in maintaining the kitchen, dining room, and all food, small-wares, and equipment-storage areas. This position requires the ability to provide friendly, customer-focused service to Catholic Charities clients and volunteers while maintaining strong relationships with shelter, housing, and program staff. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Operate commercial dishwashing equipment and three-sink cleaning/sanitizing systems. 2. Use chemicals in equipment and work areas safely, as trained. 3. Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen and dining room areas. 4. Stock and rotate food supplies in all storage areas. 5. Attend required trainings, workshops, and staff development activities. 6. Assist with kitchen maintenance, security of equipment and product, and adherence to health and safety standards per health-department regulations. 7. Wash and put away dishes, pots, pans, and small wares. 8. Assist with dining-room set-up and breakdown, including server set-up. 9. Complete assigned checklists and logs. 10. Serve meals as needed. 11. Perform other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERTISE: * High-school diploma or equivalent required. * A minimum of one (1) year of food-service experience in a large-volume or commercial kitchen required. * Ability to lift 50 pounds. * Flexibility to work a schedule that may include weekends and holidays. * ServSafe Food Handler’s Certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire). * Ability to work with diverse and/or low-income populations, including those experiencing homelessness, unstable housing, and/or mental illness.
