JOB SUMMARY:

Cherubz Daycare is seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to support our nursery team in providing healthy, balanced meals for children aged 0–5. The Kitchen Assistant plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and organised kitchen environment while ensuring all food served meets our nutritional standards and each child’s dietary needs.
Lunch and tea are delivered fresh daily, and the Kitchen Assistant will support with preparing, serving, and ensuring food is appropriately presented and distributed. You will also support staff in facilitating cooking activities with the children as part of their learning and development.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to complete before starting).
  • Health & Safety Awareness Certificate (or willingness to undertake training as part of induction).
  • Understanding of food allergens and ability to follow strict dietary protocols.
  • Ability to follow infection control procedures in line with nursery policy.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare fresh snacks and drinks for the children throughout the day.
  • Ensure meals (lunch and tea), delivered fresh daily, are served at appropriate times.
  • Ensure food is served using suitable, age-appropriate utensils and tableware.
  • Maintain cleanliness in all kitchen areas, following strict hygiene and food safety guidelines.
  • Clean and sanitise surfaces, utensils, and kitchen equipment daily.
  • Ensure proper waste disposal and kitchen organisation.
  • Complete daily kitchen risk assessments and cleaning schedules.
  • Assist nursery staff by delivering food to rooms and collecting used dishes.
  • Clear tables after mealtimes.
  • Support allergen safety practices and portion control.
  • Maintain an up-to-date list of allergies and special dietary requirements for all children.
  • Ensure allergen and dietary information is clearly displayed and adhered to at all times.
  • Prepare ingredients and materials for cooking and food activities led by nursery staff.
  • Monitor kitchen stock levels and prepare weekly shopping lists in line with menu plans.
