GENERAL STATEMENT OF MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Under regular supervision ensuring all essential functions for daily operations of a school kitchen are completed and the guidelines establish by OSHA, Division of Health and Human Services, NC Division of Health, Winston Salem Fire Safety all Federal, State, Local, and WSCS rules, policies and ordinances are followed. Must be able to obtain a clearance letter from the State of North Carolina Division of Health and Human services approving employment with a child care/ school facility.. Must have a clean background check, present a clear drug test and TB screening. Must have at least one year experience in a full service commercial kitchen. Will be required to obtain a ServSaf food handlers certification.
Essential Functions of a Kitchen Assistant
- Attend training courses as required and obtain certifications as needed
- Attend Kitchen staff meetings and training sessions
- Preparation, set-up and breakdown of hot line and salad bar
- Preparation, set up and breakdown of beverage station
- Monitors general operations of the dining room activities as related to serving student lunches and meals
- Must be able to operate all commercial kitchen equipment
- Assist in the preparation and cooking of food
- Assist in preparation of food for Early Learning Center (pre-school)
- Assist in stocking, inventory, checking deliveries
- Assist in ensuring a high level of health and safety, cleanliness and food hygiene and to ensure that safe working practices are followed. Report any problems to the Kitchen Manager or Assistant or Director of Food Services
- Responsible for proper cleaning and general maintenance of specialized commercial food service equipment to include but not limited to ovens, fryers, steam tables, cold bars, hood systems, grill, griddle, stove, steamer, kettle, slicers, mixers, proofer, hot box, dishwasher, freezers, refrigerators and all other related kitchen equipment, tools and appliances.
- Undertake related duties to ensure the dining area and the kitchen are in a clean and hygienic condition and the food service is efficient and effective.
- Responsible for the proper washing, sanitizing, drying, storage of all kitchen utensils, pots, pans, and tools
- Responsible for the proper cleaning, sanitizing and restocking of all work stations, other work surfaces, doors, handles, light switches, wash stations, supply shelves, chemical station.
- Responsible for hose down and squeegee of kitchen floors and take out of garbage each day
- Responsible for the completion of daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly items outlined on cleaning schedule.
- Must work with Kitchen Staff to maintain a 95 or above Kitchen Grade
- Must be able to do deep cleaning of all equipment and maintain hood system by way of a climbing a ladder
- Must be at work on time
- May be required to work over
- Must be able to work posted hours
- Must acquire Safe Food Handlers certification within 30 days of hire
