The Kitchen Assistant will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working environment in the kitchen and dining room. Ensure dishes are cleaned to standard, surfaces are wiped down, dining hall is clean and fully stocked.
The Kitchen Assistant will also help in preparing foods such as cutting, peeling, shredding, dicing and so on, as well as prepping for service. The more you are willing to learn, the more we are able to teach. This job requires a lot of dish washing, but there is also a lot of time to assist with prep and other cleaning tasks.
Under the supervision and direction of the Head Chef the Kitchen Assistant will be responsible for:
Kitchen Assistant Duties Include:
· Setting dining room tables and buffet tables.
· Serve food with the cook and be available to answer questions.
· Clear and wipe dining room tables, coffee counter, and buffet tables.
· Check and stock, coffee, tea, creamers, etc.
· Wash dishes in automatic dishwasher, air dry and put all dishes away.
· Take all clean New Hall dishes to New Hall kitchen and wipe off counters and stove as necessary.
· Sweep and mop kitchen floor, storage rooms, pantry and walk-in.
· When housekeeping staff are not on duty, sweep and spot mop dining floor as needed.
· Other light duties when assigned by cook including preparing salads or vegetables, baking desserts.
· Heavy and deep cleaning as assigned.
· Tend to kitchen garden, watering and weeding, and picking herbs and vegetables for use in meals.
· Properly dispose of garbage, compost, and recycling.
· Simple preparation of food by peeling, shredding, chopping, etc.
· Proper usage and storage of cleaning chemicals in compliance with WHMIS practices and standards.
