THE OPPORTUNITY

MFRC is looking for a passionate and detail-oriented Kitchen Assistant to support the continued implementation of our 2024-2026 Food Strategy and specifically to increase the amount of local, nutritionally-dense, and culturally relevant food that is shared through our programs, with special focus on our seniors’ programs. The Kitchen Assistant will be responsible for key tasks related to snack and meal preparation and planning for the seniors’ programs.

NECESSARY SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience or education (or combination) in the culinary and/or nutrition field, specifically in a high-volume setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a kitchen setting.
  • Proven ability to create culturally relevant and nutritious menus for seniors.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle.
  • Strong food preparation and organizational skills.
  • Food handling experience and certificate.
  • Familiarity with the Malvern neighborhood or surrounding neighborhoods is an asset.
  • Familiarity with allergy best practices is an asset.
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Screen if over 18 years of age.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and prepare appropriate snacks and meals for all the seniors’ team daily programs.
  • Plan monthly snack and meal menus that are culturally relevant, nutritious, and prioritize local ingredients.
  • Contribute to maintaining an organized, safe, and clean kitchen following standard operating procedures.
  • Undertake dish washing and cleaning tasks.
  • Support volunteers to assist with food preparation, cleaning and other roles as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
