Job Type: Full-time (45+ hours per week)

Berber & Q Grill House is the original home of the Berber & Q Group, located beneath a railway arch in Haggerston. Since opening in 2015, we’ve earned a reputation for bold, fire-cooked food influenced by the flavours of the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Mediterranean. Our signature dishes—such as cauliflower shawarma, smoked lamb mechoui, and vibrant mezze—are all about flavour, fire, and flair.
We’re now looking for a Kitchen Manager to lead our small but mighty team. This is an exciting opportunity for a first-time Head Chef ready to step up and leave their mark on one of East London’s most loved venues.

REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 5 years’ experience in busy, reputable kitchens
  • Experience with fire-led cooking or grilling techniques
  • Strong understanding of seasonal, fresh produce
  • Capable of managing small teams under pressure
  • Experience with high-volume cooking or catering is a plus
  • Clear communicator and natural team leader
  • Reliable, loyal, and committed to long-term growth
  • A full driving licence is a bonus, but not required
Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

As Kitchen Manager, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the kitchen, working closely with the Operations Team to ensure the highest standards in food, service, and team culture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work in partnership with the Operations Team to achieve site and kitchen performance goals.
  • Manage daily kitchen operations to ensure smooth, efficient service.
  • Lead, train, and motivate a team of chefs in a collaborative and supportive environment.
  • Ensure consistent food quality, portion control, presentation, and timing.
  • Maintain rigorous hygiene, allergen, and food safety standards at all times.
  • Play an active role in recruitment, onboarding, and staff development.
  • Contribute to menu development and seasonal innovation aligned with the Berber & Q identity.
  • Foster a professional kitchen culture that is positive, respectful, and fun.

In addition to dinner service (Wednesday–Saturday), the site also handles regular catering events. While planning and coordination are managed by the Operations Team, the Kitchen Manager is expected to:

  • Execute plans smoothly and efficiently
  • Communicate clearly with all members involved in the process
  • Oversee batch cooking and high-volume prep
  • Ensure quality is maintained under scale and pressure
