POSITION SUMMARY

The Head Chef contributes to all back of house operations and is responsible for several functions including but not limited to: food preparation, employee training inventory control and budgeting. Must have a continued presence in the restaurant and ensure the back of house team is supported through thoughtful planning and execution.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent record of kitchen management
  • 2 yrs+ experience with demonstrated success in a comparable role
  • Advanced culinary skills including food preparation, flavor profiles and other cooking best practices
  • Ability to spot and resolve problems efficiently
  • Capable of delegating multiple tasks
  • Communication and leadership skills
  • Working knowledge of various computer software programs (Excel, restaurant management software, POS)
  • Always maintain composure and professionalism, ensuring back of house staff are supported and prepared for peak hours
  • Flexible, willing to work a variety of hours, including days, evenings as well as weekends and holidays, based on the business needs
  • An aptitude for identifying and creating solutions to address changing operational needs
  • Demonstrate sound judgement and take decisive, appropriate actions
  • Provide training, coaching, mentorship, motivation and direction to all back of house staff, continually striving to develop and upskill staff in all areas of culinary and leadership skills
  • Experience handling employee issues/concerns and executing performance management procedures including performance reviews, disciplinary actions, and terminations
  • Food Safe Certification is required but can be obtained within 30 days of joining
  • Ability to meet moderate physical demands, including lifting, bending, climbing, and long periods of standing or walking and lifting 50lbs or more
  • Over the age of 18

  • Estimate food requirements and food/labor costs
  • Supervise kitchen staff’s activities
  • Will need to work the line and prepare dishes
  • Assist in equipment purchases and repairs
  • Coordinate food and food preparation for catering and events
  • Recruit and manage kitchen staff
  • Rectify arising problems or complaints
  • Perform administrative duties
  • Comply with AHS Health & Safety regulations
  • Create and maintain kitchen staff schedules
  • Work in partnership with other leads and managers to ensure a respectful workplace
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned
