Description

At Kiln, we are not just a restaurant — we are a thriving, dynamic team dedicated to delivering exceptional Middle Eastern-inspired food with a focus on open-fire cooking, seasonal ingredients, and unique hand-thrown ceramics. Located in the heart of the Ouseburn, one of Newcastle’s most vibrant hubs, we’re looking for a Kitchen Porter to join our team.
As a Kitchen Porter, you’ll play an essential role in the daily operations of our kitchen, helping to maintain cleanliness, order, and efficiency. You’ll be working with a close-knit team of passionate professionals, and there’s plenty of opportunity for growth and learning, whether you aim to develop your career in kitchen operations or become a chef.

What we’re looking for:

  • Reliability: You must be punctual, reliable, and a hard worker who takes pride in the cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen.
  • Ambition: If you’re interested in learning and have the drive to progress in the kitchen, you will thrive with us. This is an opportunity to step into the world of professional kitchens and develop your culinary skills.
  • Positive attitude: Polite, respectful, and a team player.
  • Comfort in a fast-paced environment: We work hard, but we work together, with passion and focus.

Your role includes:

  • Cleaning and dishwashing: Keep the kitchen, equipment, and utensils sparkling clean, and assist in basic food preparation.
  • Health & Safety: Follow kitchen safety and hygiene protocols, especially with hot equipment and chemicals.
  • Assisting the kitchen team: Support the chefs with their prep, including washing, peeling, and chopping ingredients.
  • Waste management: Ensure that all waste is properly disposed of and that kitchen waste areas are tidy.

Why join Kiln?

  • Flexible Hours: Part-time opportunities available, with hours ranging from 20 to 35 hours per week, depending on business needs.
  • No late finishes: We close at 11 pm every night, so there are no late-night shifts.
  • Staff Benefits:
  • Good tips shared fairly across the team.
  • Staff discount on all products, including our handmade ceramics.
  • Opportunity to learn about ceramics and the broader hospitality industry.
  • Growth potential: This is an entry-level position with a clear path for advancement in the kitchen. If you’re ambitious, you could be cooking over fire with seasonal ingredients, making exceptional food, and learning alongside talented chefs.
  • Pay: £12.21 per hour, plus tips.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Kitchen Porter is essential to understand kitchen flow, health & safety, and basic food prep.
  • Punctuality and reliability are key.
  • Flexible availability for daytime, evening, and weekend shifts.
  • Drive and ambition to learn and grow in a professional kitchen environment.

At Kiln, we pride ourselves on a high-quality environment, both in the kitchen and front of house. Our team is self-motivated, passionate about cooking, and committed to delivering food that stands out. If you’re looking for a place where you can grow, learn, and be part of a thriving team, then we’d love to hear from you.
