Kitchen Steward (Porter), Culinary Services Primary Purpose: Primary purpose is to ensure a high standard of sanitation, maintenance, and efficiency in the areas of the Dishroom as well as other areas of the kitchen as needed. This position also provides support in the central storeroom and may assist with catering deliveries as needed. Nature of Work: The successful applicant will report directly to the Sous Chef and the Executive Chef and provides assistance to kitchen supervisors as requested. Shifts are subject to change with business demands and will include Early Mornings, Evenings and/or Weekends. The incumbent is accountable to the Consumer Services Team Charter and is aligned with its purpose, vision, and values, holding themselves and each other accountable to these guiding principles. Typical Duties or Accountabilities: Maintain standards of daily operations in the areas of washing of pots, dishes, pans, and cooking utensils. Inspect kitchens, dishroom, and equipment for cleanliness and order; takes inventory of china, silverware, and glassware as well as prepares them for catering and special events. Maintain inventory and safe storage of chemicals and cleaning supplies. Regular operation and basic maintenance of dishroom and kitchen equipment. Regular cleaning and sanitation of fridges, storage, and work areas. Safe handling of cleaning supplies and chemicals. Walk catering delivery to/from destinations while maintaining a timely schedule. Assist in the Central Stores warehouse. Assist with deliveries to satellite locations. Assist in all other areas of the Culinary Service operation as required. Qualifications Education: The incumbent requires Grade 12. Licenses: Food Safe Certificate is required WHIMIS Certificate is required Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence Experience: Previous experience in a within a fast paced kitchen environment. Skills: Ability to work efficiently and productively in a high volume setting for protracted periods of time. Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting. Ability to work independently. Ability to work under pressure. Ability to adapt or respond to changing priorities and variable workloads. Ability to learn quickly. Positive attitude and the ability to interact productively and collaboratively with coworkers. Strong organizational skills. Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions and request clarification when needed. Department: Culinary Services Status: Term 12 months with the possibility of extension or becoming seasonal. Employment Group: CUPE 1975 Shift: Shifts are scheduled and subject to change based on business demands and include early mornings, evenings, weekends and STAT holidays. Full Time Equivalent (FTE): 1.0 Salary: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $16.75 - 20.43 per hour. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
