Firecrown is seeking an experienced Editor to lead the editorial strategy of Kitplanes, the deepest and most informative publication for the homebuilt and experimental aircraft community. The ideal candidate will have a strong editorial background, an understanding of aviation, and expertise in digital content strategy, SEO, and analytics. This role requires a dynamic individual who can balance high-volume news production with long-form content while leveraging AI tools to optimize workflows.
The ideal candidate will have deep connections to the experimental aviation sector, including potentially being a homebuilder themselves.
Firecrown is a dynamic and rapidly growing company that specializes in acquiring and managing the world’s leading lifestyle and enthusiast publications. It operates print and internet publications, e-commerce sites, marketplaces, develops aviation real estate, and provides financing solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the production, editing, and optimization of aviation-related content for a regular cadenced print magazine.
- Oversee the production, editing, and optimization of aviation-related content for the digital world, including digital web stories, social media, and more.
- Manage content submissions from writers, reporters, and contributors, ensuring accuracy, engagement, and adherence to AP Style.
- Optimize content for SEO, implementing best practices to drive organic traffic and improve search rankings.
- Represent the brand as a whole, including at events in the community.
- Identify talent in the community to contribute to the magazine.
- Manage budgets, publication schedules, print strategy, and more.
- Leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to enhance content creation, analysis, and distribution.
- Manage a small team of writers who may write for other publications in Firecrown’s portfolio
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of aviation trends and news, covering commercial, general, and business aviation.
- Monitor website and social media analytics, refining content strategy based on performance insights.
- Curate and manage content for daily and weekly newsletters to drive audience engagement.
- Collaborate across departments to align digital content with broader editorial and business goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of Firecrown’s digital media properties.

Requirements:
- Strong writing and editing skills, with expertise in AP Style and journalism.
- Familiarity with standard publishing practices, including print publication processes.
- Experience in content management systems (CMS) and web publishing.
- Proficiency in SEO best practices and content optimization strategies.
- Familiarity with AI and analytical tools for content creation and performance tracking.
- Deep understanding of the aviation industry, particularly in the experimental division.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high editorial standards.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working with remote teams.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines while managing multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of journalistic ethics and standards in digital media.
