JOB SUMMARY

We’re looking for a Knowledge Assets and Intellectual Property Manager to help us make a difference to our planet.
As our Knowledge Assets and Intellectual Property Manager, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.
Our opportunity is full time, 37 hours per week, but we would also consider applicants wishing to work a minimum of 30 hours per week and we will also try our best to consider those intending to work a job share. Our people are at the heart of what we do and we’ll do our best to agree a working pattern that works for everyone.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Knowledge Assets (KAs) are non-physical assets such as intellectual property (IP), data, skills, know-how, and research and development outputs. Effective management of KAs and IP is critical to the success of the Met Office - we need to value and protect what makes the Met Office unique.
Managing the process from identification through to exploitation, you will ensure the Met Office knows what knowledge assets and intellectual property it has and what is valuable and important. You’ll ensure there are effective plans and actions in place help make sure the Met Office is getting maximum value from these assets. You’ll also ensure people in teams across the Met Office are equipped to manage these assets effectively.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • An expert by nature, with proven ability to translate scientific and technical concepts into plain English and be able to summarise these meaningfully and concisely for yourself and others.
  • You work better together, with experience of stakeholder management and building and maintaining a network of relationships with colleagues and in key external organisations.
  • You live and breathe it, with experience of developing, tailoring and delivering presentations and written communication to get buy in from colleagues and stakeholders.
  • A force for good, you have experience providing governance and assurance on records and catalogues for sharing knowledge and information with others.

Responsibilities

YOUR KEY DUTIES:

  • Work with colleagues across the Met Office, especially in Services, Markets, Legal and Knowledge and Information Management teams, to deliver a coordinated set of activities around Met Office KA and IP.
  • Maintain and develop the Met Office KA and IP register and invention disclosure process so a clear picture is available of all important Met Office KA and IP.
  • Implement focused work to equip key teams in the Met Office with the knowledge and ability to manage and protect KA and IP appropriate to their job.
  • Develop and take forward actions to exploit key IP and Knowledge Assets where wider exploitation is possible and beneficial, in line with our wider strategic objectives.
  • Engage, develop and manage relationships with colleagues in key IP partner and stakeholder organisations.
