We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Class Assistant to join our team at our Kumon Maths and English Study Centre based in Carshalton, near Carshalton Park.
This role would suit candidates looking for term-time work. Must be able to work 2 days a week from 3:45pm – 6:15pm, on either Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays. There are no classes during Christmas and Easter holidays, you may be required to work half terms and a few weeks during the summer holidays.
The role of a Kumon Class Assistant is to work with students who attend Kumon learning maths and English. The role will suit someone who would like to gain some experience working with primary school aged children, in particular younger children from 4-7 years old. They will be listening to students read, teaching them to count and help students develop their handwriting skills.
This is a rewarding role where you will help students learn new skills and watch them thrive. Keeping the students focused on their work in a positive and enthusiastic environment is key.

Responsibilities

EARLY LEARNERS CLASS ASSISTANT KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supporting younger students (ages 4-7) during class
  • Listening to students read
  • Help students develop counting and number reading skills
  • Guide students through their maths and English worksheets
  • Explaining advanced math concepts to older students
  • Keeping students focused and motivated in class
  • Feedback to Instructor on student’s work progress and class observations
  • Marking classwork and recording homework
  • Help set up tables, chairs and equipment before class, and packing away at the end of class
  • Assist with wiping clean surfaces before, during and after class, maintaining a clean and safe environment

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR THIS ROLE ARE:

  • Positive, enthusiastic and patient with children
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail when marking work and observing students
  • Ability to learn new processes and concepts quickly
  • Be able to work quickly and calmly in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to explain maths concepts and English grammar to students in a clear and eloquent manner
  • Be friendly and approachable
  • GCSE English and Mathematics (Grade 7 or A, or higher) required
  • A-level in Maths is highly desirable
  • First Aid trained (desirable)
    Training of the Kumon Method of Learning and class procedures will be provided. Once selected, Candidate will be required to go through an Enhanced DBS check and to provide two references. Candidates with valid enhanced DBS check will be a plus.
