POSITION SUMMARY An Installation and Repair Technician (IRT) will perform customer facing functions that primarily include the installation of fiber optic drop cables, optical network terminals (ONT), wireless gateways and voice services for residential customers.  Additionally, this position is responsible for supporting the residential customer base by completing service calls to repair and/or replace the equipment responsible for delivering services.  Due to these two key responsibilities and being presented as the face of the organization, this position requires a candidate with excellent technical, problem solving and customer service skills.   PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Installing new Fiber Optic cable and or cat6 cable in customer premises. * Fusion Splicing new Fiber Optic cable at customer premises. * Installing GWI electronic equipment in customer premises, including but not limited to ONT, Router, and WiFi Gateway. * Installation of GWI digital phone services, from Fiber Optic NID to customer owned phone. * Following NECA/FOA 301-2016 and organizational installation standards. * Perform flagging duties as required to facilitate Fiber Optic Cable Installation or repair. * Use following tools/equipment to perform day to day activities:  stepladder, mechanical drill, cable stripper/crimper, modular jacks/plugs, cabling fish tape, impact tool, wire-wrap/unwrap, staple gun, and other telecommunications-related tools. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE * Valid driver's license. * High School Diploma, or equivalent.  * Cabling experience preferred. * Possess strong computer and phone skills.  * Knowledge of the Internet and email. * Proficient in Windows based applications. * Pleasant and professional manner. * Must have or be able to obtain Flagger Certification within 30 days of hire. COMMUNICATION SKILLS  * Able to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, in a Professional and Pleasant manner.  * Able to speak effectively before groups of Customers or Employees of GWI.  * Able to read, analyze, and interpret common safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  * Establish appropriate priorities and meet deadlines. * Field data collection and entry skills. * Handle multiple tasks - Employees must have strong organizational skills. * Prioritize basic tasks, without allowing tasks to be forgotten. * Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. * Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers. * Follow company and department policies and procedures. * Include appropriate people in a decision making process. WORKING CONDITIONS * While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and/or hear.  * Must have the ability to distinguish colors. * The employee frequently is required to use hands to type. * The employee is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. * The employee is required to work off an 8’ high step ladder in or on homes. * The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds when needed, frequency differs. * Ability to pass and maintain DOT Medical Examination* REPORTING RELATIONSHIP * Reports Directly to Field Services Supervisor.
