Legal Aid Alberta is seeking to fill a full-time, permanent Business Analyst position. This position will appeal to an individual that enjoys working at a small to mid-size company, likes to take initiative, is client focused and is exceptionally strong in delivering high-quality results. While this is a remote opportunity, candidates must be able to travel to Edmonton and/or Calgary offices for meetings and workshops as required.

Job Description
Reporting to the Manager, IT Services, some of the key responsibilities include:
REQUIREMENTS & PROCESS ANALYSIS:
- Works with stakeholders to identify issues or opportunities to improve complicated business processes, provides in-depth analysis and suggestions for business process improvement.
- Elicits, analyzes, validates and manages detailed functional and non-functional requirements using focus groups, brainstorming, workshops, surveys and other techniques.
- Responsible for requirements traceability, with the ability to contribute to business application test planning by assisting in the creation of test plans, test suites and the execution of solution testing as required.
- Participates in the evaluation, prioritization and requirements gathering for ongoing system changes, enhancements and selection.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Post secondary education in business administration, computing science/technology or a related field. Acceptable combination of education and experience will be considered.
- 5 - 8 years’ experience as a Business Analyst, or combination of applicable experience in business areas.
- IIBA Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) Certification is considered an asset.
KNOWLEDGE:
Technical & IT Knowledge
- Advanced knowledge of information technology architectures including integration and application software, database, subsystem components and software.
- Advanced knowledge of emerging methods, procedures, tools, technology, best practices and techniques within the IT industry.
- Experience working on projects of varying complexity, including multi-system and integrated environments
- Advanced knowledge of application security practices and procedures.
SKILLS:
Strategic & Analytical Skills
- Extensive experience and knowledge related to strategic planning, strategic information management, business analysis, requirements management, change management, data design, conceptual design, process re-engineering theory, system development life cycle, research techniques and project management methodologies and practices.
- Strong critical thinking and evaluation skills.
- In-depth analytical skills, and ability to use innovation and extensive domain knowledge to problem-solve complicated business issues.
- Ability to work in a complex and highly dynamic project environment, responsible for multiple concurrent projects and deliverables.
- Ability to embrace and work effectively with ambiguity to create order from complicated tasks.
Communication & Facilitation Skills
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to clearly communicate ideas and to discuss technical issues with non-technical clients.
- Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, consultation, presentation, leadership, verbal and written communication skills, particularly when communicating original concepts.
- Ability to facilitate requirements sessions, training and present to large groups.
Other Skills
- Ability to exercise sound judgment while maintaining an organization-wide perspective.
- Operate effectively in a matrix environment; organize work, manage time and priorities and consistently meet deadlines, while working independently on multiple and complex assignments.
- Interpret and apply organizational operations, policies, legislation and regulations while assisting with the development of new business processes and solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and contribute to numerous concurrent projects and deliverables.
- Excellent skills in Microsoft (or similar) suite of products.
- Ability and willingness to provide leadership, guidance and mentorship to junior resources as required.
