EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience required and
  • Bachelor’s Degree or medical field experience preferred

EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1-3 years Minimum of three years in a medical office or hospital setting. preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, requires good communication skills and telephone etiquette.
  • Organizational and time management skills are required.
  • Ability to utilize proficiency and internal systems.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills. Experience with computerized data entry required.
Responsibilities
  • Maintains the ability to function in all aspects of the duties of an Outreach Courier.
  • Retrieves specimen and delivery of reports, slides, and supplies (on a STAT basis-when required) from assigned clients. Notifies Coordinator/Manager of any delays in pre-arranged schedule.
  • Maintains storage requirements for biological specimens and other related items handled during transport according to established procedures.
  • Assures that the car is in reliable working condition; documents all mileage.
  • Keeps mileage/usage log current and accurate.
  • Submits monthly mileage in a timely manner.
  • Reports any problems or accidents to the Supervisor and fills out the accident form completely for all accidents. A formal police report may also be required depending on the severity of an accident. Any tickets received will be the responsibility of the driver to pay.
  • Maintains car in a quiet, clean, neat, and orderly appearance.
  • Drives safely and legally at all times and never transports passengers.
  • Maintains adequate auto insurance.
  • Maintains and replenishes all client supplies on a timely basis. Verbally communicates request for unusual or non-routine items to the attention of the Coordinator/Manager.
  • Delivery of supplies up to 25 pounds.
  • Responsible for registering patients using a variety of billing account types and ensure that accounts created are being performed on the correct patient by using two patient identifiers.
  • Assures that the correct patient account is selected for all tests ordered.
  • Assures that all tests are entered as ordered by the physician and the correct physician is associated with each patient’s order.
  • Receives specimens and ensures proper collection procedure. Labels specimens according to established procedures.
  • Verifies that the name and date of birth on specimens match labels before they’re given to techs to process.
  • Notifies tech in each department of any discrepancies.
  • Follows protocol for specimen discrepancies and notify office personnel during business hours.
  • Assists in orientation and instruction of new personnel.
  • Performs hardware maintenances as needed. Changes ribbons, replenishes labels, paper, and documents as needed. Maintains cleanliness of specimen boxes.
  • Identifies self as a HNMC employee, wears HNMC ID badge and proper uniform both in-hospital and outside of hospital (at physician’s offices).
  • Maintains an effective communication system among the Outreach Clients, Laboratory Staff, and Physicians within the Laboratory.
  • Complies with policies and procedures, rules, and regulations of the Hospital, Laboratory, and applicable legislation. Uses proper techniques, equipment in performance of duties. Strictly adheres to safety and infection control policies.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Demonstrates, establishes, and maintains good rapport with referral sources (i.e. Physicians, Physician Office Personnel, and Laboratory Personnel).
  • Performs other related duties as requested.
