JOB SUMMARY:

The Laboratory Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and performance of a laboratory team consisting of 10-12 employees. Primary duties include managing workflow and workload, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and fostering a productive and collaborative work environment.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Possesses excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Treats others with mutual respect and regard
  • Completes work with accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail
  • Exhibits constancy and reliability; produces dependable work results

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES:

  • 5+ years’ experience managing a team
  • 10+ years’ experience in biological, pharmaceutical, or diagnostic testing

EDUCATION, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in microbiology or related scientific discipline, or equivalent lab work experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE JOB:

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for long periods
  • Ability to sustain extended periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer

Responsibilities
  • Serves as technical expert providing scientific leadership and guidance to clients and staff; trains staff on appropriate laboratory techniques and procedures
  • Follows all policies, protocols, and SOPs; updates procedures; responsible for protocol and reports writing and approval
  • Ensures microbiology and virology labs are continuously compliant with quality standards and audit-ready; represents VMRD during client visits and regulatory inspections
  • In conjunction with Testing Services management
  • develops department plan to meet future client needs including, but not limited to, new assay development, new assay verification/validation, and new equipment validation
  • plans and executes staffing, supply, equipment, and facility resources as necessary to properly run the testing department to meet client and company needs
  • Follows and enforces all policies, protocols, and SOPs
  • Administers performance management program for Testing Services division
  • Tracks and manages to key performance indicators
  • As a managerial role, interviews, hires, and trains new staff; assigns work or projects; provides constructive and ongoing feedback and coaching for development; manages staff in accordance with department needs, company policies, practices, and initiatives
  • Performs other duties as assigned
