Purpose: Performs analyses on specimens to aid in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients, following established quality control protocols Essential Duties/Responsibilities:  * Reports directly to the Lab Manager (Department: Lab – 79).   * Responsible for performance of routine laboratory analysis which may occasionally include collection and processing. * Receives specimens. * Maintains positive specimen identification throughout testing and reporting process. * Demonstrates ability to organize and prioritizes work duties. * Demonstrates ability to work in all technical areas of the laboratory to produce results accurately and within acceptable turnaround times.   * Demonstrates knowledge of laboratory instrumentation and testing for the purpose of performing quality control checks according to written protocol.   * Performs appropriate instrument startup, shutdown, and maintenance as required. * Demonstrates ability to perform minor troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation. * Maintains appreciate records (QC, specimen and test logs, instrument maintenance, troubleshooting/ corrective actions, etc.) as required for assigned tasks. * Demonstrates ability to recognize abnormal values and follows protocol for rechecking, accepting, and calling physician or designated nurse. * Maintains patient confidentiality both inside and outside of the workplace. * Prepares solutions and reagents, stains etc. * Assists Lab Manager in maintaining inventory of supplies and placing orders. * Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.   * Enhances professional growth and development through in-service meetings and educational programs. * Demonstrates skill in providing guidance/supervision to other laboratory staff members. * Demonstrates the ability to handle educational responsibilities as assigned by the Laboratory Manager. * Maintains communication with Lab Manager regarding problems, workflow, and needed changes. * Assists in keeping manuals updated. * Demonstrates leadership on maintaining Laboratory Information System through operating, maintenance and troubleshooting.   Other Duties: * Requires excellent speaking and hearing abilities to communicate with staff and patients either in person or by telephone. * Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending/squatting, lifting, and reaching in order to perform pre-analysis, analysis, and post-analysis specimen testing activities. * Requires dexterity in operating instruments, including routine maintenance and minor repairs, and manipulating manual test devices. * Requires visual acuity for using a microscope, reading, and following technical procedures and reporting test results. * Requires regular contact with biohazardous specimens, therefore inherent risk of exposure to blood borne diseases (OSHA Risk Category II). * Requires routinely handling chemical reagents during testing.   * As assigned by the manager QUALIFICATIONS Required: * AS degree in Medical/Clinical Laboratory Science with appropriate clinical experience; professional certification or eligibility by a recognized certification agency (ASCP, AMT, etc.)         ADA Physical Demands: Rarely (Less than .5 hrs/day) Occasionally (0.6 – 2.5 hrs/day) Frequently (2.6 – 5.5 hrs/day) Continuously (5.6 – 8.0 hrs/day) Physical Demand Required?
