Position Summary: Our Clinical Lab Technicians play a vital role in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to our patients and families. In this role, you’ll combine your technical expertise with a patient-first approach to support accurate diagnoses and positive health outcomes for children of all ages. You’ll be responsible for collecting specimens, performing routine laboratory testing, and ensuring all processes meet the highest standards of accuracy, safety, and compliance. From working closely with providers to maintaining regulatory excellence, you’ll help keep our lab running smoothly and efficiently every day. Schedule: Part-time (24 hours/week); Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 8:45 AM – 5:45 PM, with occasional flexibility based on clinic needs. Key Responsibilities: Collect patient specimens as ordered by authorized providers. Perform regulated and unregulated laboratory tests in accordance with approved policies and procedures. Ensure proper specimen handling, processing, and storage. Maintain accurate and complete laboratory logs, records, and documentation. Perform and document required quality control, quality assurance, and performance improvement activities. Select and maintain appropriate test methodologies and laboratory test menus based on clinical use. Verify test procedures and establish laboratory performance criteria, including accuracy and precision. Establish and maintain a quality control program appropriate for all testing performed. Monitor test systems to ensure quality standards are maintained throughout the testing process. Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues; initiate and document corrective actions when deviations occur. Ensure patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions are completed and systems are functioning properly. Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs on laboratory instrumentation. Maintain proficiency testing records and ensure samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens. Identify staff training needs and provide or coordinate regular in-service training. Participate in and conduct laboratory meetings and in-service sessions as requested by the Laboratory Director. Ensure laboratory staff are performing duties optimally and in compliance with expectations. Adhere to all PPE requirements, safety standards, and infection control protocols. Decontaminate and clean laboratory workspaces daily or as needed. Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, result reporting, and record retention. Ensure ongoing compliance with all quality control, quality assurance, and regulatory standards. Requirements High school diploma or GED Active phlebotomy certification required; ASCP-PBT highly preferred or certification from another approved, accredited organization Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual in Spanish At least 1 year of experience performing blood draws/venipuncture in a clinical or diagnostic lab setting Pediatric experience strongly preferred Experience working with diverse patient populations Familiarity with CLIA-waived testing and lab compliance standards Previous experience in a multi-provider or high-volume clinic Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment supporting multiple providers Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy, quality, and patient safety Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a patient-focused approach Knowledge of clinical laboratory practices, procedures, and regulatory requirements (CLIA, CMS, COLA, and applicable state regulations) Understanding of laboratory quality control, quality assurance, and proficiency testing standards Proficiency in specimen collection, processing, and testing methodologies, including pediatric experience Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation Strong documentation and record-keeping skills with a focus on compliance Ability to identify issues, implement corrective actions, and maintain regulatory standards Knowledge of laboratory safety practices, PPE use, and infection control procedures Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with providers and clinical staff
