Overview:
As part of our continued support to our customer in the space sector we are looking for a Lab Technician to join us on a permanent or contract basis. The salary/rate is negotiable based on experience. Seniority, etc. The role will be based at our customer’s facility in Stevenage and may involve shift work for which a premium will be paid.
We are now looking for a lab technician to provide cover to the Materials Laboratory within the M&P domain in Stevenage. The main work of this package is to ensure lab KPI’s for various turnaround times are met by performing various testing as required, ensuring safety and quality at all times.
This vacancy presents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to develop and grow their skills and knowledge within a thriving organisation. The job holder will be engaged in a wide variety of laboratory activities covering all areas of lab testing work, so lab experience is essential and clean room experience is highly desirable for this role

Responsibilities:

  • Activities definition:
  • Mechanical testing of production test pieces (standard tensile tests)
  • Microsectioning of various materials
  • Microscope work
  • Basic chemistry testing
  • Use of typical lab equipment – balances, ovens etc.
  • Testing of incoming raw materials to their associated specifications (batch acceptance)
  • Main Tasks:
  • Assist in the batch acceptance work stream.
  • Assist with R&D testing.
  • Contribute to processes and risk assessments being up to date.
  • Working in a safe and tidy manner.
  • Attending weekly meetings (SQCDP) to flag any safety, quality or delivery issues that could prevent work being delivered.
  • Deliverables:
  • Complete testing on time with traceability
  • Work order sign off on electronic reporting systems
  • Writing reports for tasks that may require it
  • Reporting any failures via the relevant quality systems
  • Contribute to health and safety systems and ensure compliance to them

Qualifications:

  • HNC or HND in engineering/maintenance OR Apprenticeship in Aerospace/Space or other high quality production field, Similar labortory based Qualifactions.

Essential skills:

  • A good understanding of laboratory analyst activities that align with the main tasks as listed.
  • Experience with testing methodologies, including Chemical testing.
  • Knowledge of materials testing.

  • Experience working in a high quality production environment relating to mechanical assembly
  • Experience working in a clean-room environment including FOD/ESD practices
