About the role Our Clark location is part of our Taste Division, producing flavors and ingredients. Our Clark facility is unique in the sense they have two buildings. The North building has a fruitier smell to it, the teams in that building are producing natural flavoring and essential oils. The South building is the complete opposite, it will have savory and garlic smells because the team is producing seasonings for meat, chicken broth, and beef gravy. 160 Terminal Ave, Clark, NJ 07066 The Lab technician shift is 630am to 230PM Monday to Friday, some Saturday's. Key responsibilities Position Title Laboratory Technician Responsibilities include but are not limited to • Conduct routine quantitative and qualitative analysis on finished goods and related raw materials. • Perform standard procedures for instrument calibration, titrant standardization, and reagent/indicator preparation. • Monitor chemical inventory and lab supplies. • Conduct sensory panels to detect off flavors. • Record all results in the Sensory database. • Maintain retain samples. • Maintain QA/QC documents and processes. • Complete all duties in accordance with company safety rules and good manufacturing practices. • Clean equipment and work area during and after shift • Keep daily records of tests performed and results. • Prepare Micro samples and submissions. • Follow all quality, safety, and company protocols and procedures. • Perform chemical testing on raw material, in-process, and finished good samples including HPLC, Gas Chromatography (GC), and wet chemistry testing. • Conduct impurity, supplier approval, and research testing • Analyze test data to determine product acceptability. • Perform laboratory equipment calibrations/performance checks. • Collaborate with Production to investigate and prevent out-of-spec product. • Troubleshoot and maintain laboratory instruments. • Assist in the performance of qualifications and validations of instruments and test methods. • Evaluate test data to determine process control adherence and determine proper responses to out-of-specification product. • Revise laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) • Assist in writing protocols and reports. • Execute test protocols as assigned by management. • Assist supervisor with scheduling and overseeing day-to-day tasks/projects. • Train new analysts on laboratory skills and functions • Perform other duties as required to fulfill department and business needs. Qualifications and skills Qualifications • BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, food science or related discipline is preferred. • At least 2 years’ experience in a flavor / pharmaceutical industry required. Knowledge of juices/flavors/essential oils/emulsions and sensory analysis is plus. • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP's) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) a must! • Possess an understanding of cGMP/compliance requirements for food/flavor products ideal. • Expertise in root cause analysis, and monitoring CAPA effectiveness would be a desirable. • Experience with electronic systems such as SAP is an advantage. • Ability to work independently with minimum guidance. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • No dietary restriction Basic reading and Math skills working conditions and physical requirements • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds • Exposure to hazards (machinery, confined spaces, etc.) • Must be able to work in and around loud noise levels, industrial machinery, air-conditioned environments suitable for carrying out controlled tests. Compensation The pay range for this position is $19.93 - $32.31 per hour. Kerry typically does not hire an individual at the top or near the top of the range, as we are a pay-for-performance company, and this range is set to continue to reward performance annually while in role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The specific compensation offered to a candidate within the above range may be influenced by a variety of factors including skills, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
