JOB DESCRIPTION

Main Responsibilities for a Lab Technician in a secondary school:
1. Preparation and distribution of such equipment and solutions required for experimental work for all levels up to Leaving Certificate.
2. Overall coordination of the laboratories and preparation rooms.
3. Communication with the Science Department coordinator and other staff.
4. Stock control of equipment, chemicals and resources.

• Preparation of relevant glassware and chemicals for practical laboratory sessions for teachers.
• Calibration and maintenance of instrumentation and equipment for lab use.
• Maintenance of chemical and equipment stores, contacting suppliers and placing orders.
• Assisting teachers on a daily basis with experimental set up, lab demonstrations and all practical work.
• Organisation of store rooms as regards layout and storage of equipment for teacher’s ease of access.
• Maintaining PPE and safety equipment such as first aid kits, eye wash stations, etc. throughout the labs.
• Scheduling use of specific lab equipment in use by multiple classes at any given time.
• Sustaining an even distribution of equipment between labs where possible.
• Assisting teachers with new ideas for experimental set ups and demonstrations.
  Job Type: Part-time
  Pay: €26,000.00 per year
  Expected hours: 25 per week
