Would you like to join us and take a front seat in our R&D team based in Wageningen, The Netherlands as Supervisor of our in-house Laboratories? You will be working as part of a passionate team with a hands-on mentality, reporting to the FFSC Site Leader. You will help us develop and promote products to deliver the next generation of delicious, natural and nutritious food. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Laboratory Excellence Supervisor to oversee our Microbiology and Chemistry laboratory operations. On top of that that you are taking ownership of all laboratory operations within our state-of-art Food Science Center, including Product Development and Packaging. The ideal candidate will have expertise in food (preferably oils and fat products) and will lead a team of three laboratory technicians. This role focuses on enhancing the quality of laboratory results, improving operational efficiencies, and maintaining high standards of safety and compliance. Supervision and Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of three laboratory technicians. Conduct regular team meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and updates. Provide training and development opportunities for team members. Oversees, optimise 3rd party external analysis ways of working and reporting Laboratory Operations: Oversee daily laboratory operations within FFSC, upgrade standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols and ensure compliance Coordinate and prioritize laboratory activities to meet project deadlines and quality standards Analyse samples according to request Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment in cooperation with our Technical Services Lead Quality Management: Drive the food quality agenda for the FFSC and align procedures between labs, pilot plants and kitchens within R&D Develop and validate analytical methods for testing of food products within the Flora portfolio Conduct regular audits and inspections to maintain compliance with GLP standards. Address and resolve any quality issues or discrepancies promptly Efficiency Enhancement: Evaluate and optimize laboratory workflows to improve efficiency and productivity Implement best practices for laboratory management, including the use of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and automation where applicable Regularly review and update SOPs to reflect the latest industry standards and technological advancements Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed records of laboratory activities, including test results, equipment logs, and quality control data Prepare and present reports on laboratory performance and project progress to management Safety and Compliance: Work closely together with SHE specialist on safety compliance in our laboratory environment Conduct risk assessments and implement measures to mitigate potential hazards Stay updated on industry regulations and best practices So what does it take to be successful in this role? You have a Bachelor’s/HBO degree in Chemistry or Microbiology and bring at least five years of relevant laboratory experience, preferably within an ISO 17025–accredited setting, including two years in a supervisory capacity. You have expertise in the analysis of oils and fats, strong knowledge of laboratory safety protocols, regulatory requirements, GLP, and applicable ISO standards. You have excellent leadership, communication, and organizational abilities, along with proficiency in LIMS and analytical software. You have the ability to manage time-critical business requests and communicate fluently in English, with additional languages considered a plus. You have hands-on experience with analytical techniques such as GC and HPLC, the capability to troubleshoot technical laboratory issues, and the readiness to work in a lab environment with chemicals, biological materials, and occasional lifting.
