The analyst is responsible for planning daily workflow, monitoring quality of procedures and proper technique, and communicating issues and needs to the Team lead. The GC Analyst will perform tasks according to Sterling Labs SOPs and protocols in a safe manner, following honest and ethical behavior in all laboratory activities. The 8011-ALC-GYL/GC Analysts will perform specific duties assigned by the Organic Team Lead to ensure that client service requests are met. The GC Analyst must display motivation to see projects through to completion to meet client expectations. Primary duties GC Analysis: Pesticides Secondary duties GC Analysis: PCNs, Alcohols, Glycols, TPH Tasks Manage sample workload to meet reporting deadlines. Upload and review results in Sterling Lab’s LIMS Quantify and qualify results based on the analytical method and SOP. Report accurate and on-time data in ELEMENT 7 Calibrate instrumentation accurately according to SOPs. Build sequence and batch data to maximize instrument run efficiency. Perform daily and ongoing maintenance on instruments, including inlet maintenance, changing columns, source cleaning, etc. Prepare standards and reagents. Make critical decisions about the quality of samples prior to analysis to protect instruments and meet client objectives. Assist other analysts and extractors in other lab areas as workflow requires, under direction of your supervisor. Maintain good housekeeping habits and assist with sample disposal. Communicate to the Team lead the status of the workload as well as any data quality issues. Assist supervisor in determining sources of problems and implementing corrective actions to resolve those issues. Other duties as assigned. Requirements BS/BA degree in chemistry or related field Working knowledge of MS Office: Word, Excel and Access. Excellent verbal and communication skills. Self-directed, goal oriented. 1-2 years of experience as a GC/HPLC analyst is preferred. Familiarity with Element 7 is preferred. . Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of standing while operating gas chromatographs (GC) and preparing samples for analysis. Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle laboratory glassware, syringes, pipettes, and analytical instruments with precision. Must be able to lift, carry, and move solvent containers, gas cylinders, and laboratory equipment weighing up to 30 pounds using proper and safe lifting techniques. Occasional bending, reaching, and stooping to set up instruments, access supplies, or perform maintenance on laboratory equipment. Must be able to visually inspect samples, chromatograms, and instrument displays with precision; specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work safely around compressed gases, solvents, and other laboratory chemicals while wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, lab coats, and safety glasses. Ability to remain focused for extended periods while conducting repetitive analytical tasks requiring accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers regarding data quality, equipment issues, and workload status.
