Description St. Croix Health is looking for a full-time, 1.0 FTE Laboratory Assistant to join our team.This is an excellent opportunity to work in the healthcare field with a dedicated laboratory team.The base schedule consists of day shifts, Monday through Friday, primarily at our St. Croix Health location, with rotating weekend shifts. Job Summary: The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for obtaining and preparing specimens for analysis and performing various screening tests. Perform laboratory duties with minimal supervision to care for a diverse population of patients of all ages. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Collect and accurately label specimens for laboratory testing. Performs phlebotomy and specimen collection Ensure specimen are labeled with all required information in accordance with department policies and procedures Collect specimen in appropriate container Maintains compliance with laboratory and hospital policies, procedures and safety practices Contributes to the general laboratory functions and organizational needs 2. Accurately process orders and specimens for testing or referral. LIS and EMR documentation of entered and released orders Minimal or no specimen rejection by testing staff or reference lab Process blood, urine, and culture specimens, etc. for testing and referral 3. Perform required testing in areas where competent. Perform EKGs and ensure EKG tracings are accurately labeled and routed Accurately perform waived testing including QC Subject to competency assessment and achieving satisfactory proficiency testing results Accurately complete documentation of results in the LIS 4. Other duties as assigned Perform clerical laboratory duties as needed Keeps work area neat and clean Restock supplies Attends regular department meetings Completes required trainings Requirements Education & Licensure High school graduate Certified Phlebotomist or Certified Medical Assistant/Medical Assistant with phlebotomy training preferred Experience Previous phlebotomy experience preferred St. Croix Health is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
