G&G provides complex genetic testing for a broad range of inherited conditions, serving an important role in the provision of genetic services for the province of Alberta. The Lab Assistant I position will performed standard and specialized procedures in Molecular Genetics. You will be responsible for performing automated or manual DNA extractions, DNA quantity and quality assessment using the NanoDrop instrument and preparing water blanks. Other responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: specimen accessioning, processing, distribution and storage; responding to inquiries; cleaning, monitoring and preventative maintenance of lab equipment and work areas; maintaining common supplies; updating inventories and data sheets; and participating in training, lab quality and safety requirements.

DESCRIPTION:

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
