JOB SUMMARY:
We are working on conserved RNA structures within microexons and the functional impacts of these structures on RNA splicing. This project will require computational, bioinformatic, cellular and molecular biology experiments. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - High School or Equivalent and work experience in a related health care setting or in a clinical or research laboratory setting; or 12 semester hours of academic training in biology and or chemistry; or registration as a Certified Laboratory Assistant by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or an equivalent registry; or successful completion of a formal program of instruction for laboratory assistants at a hospital or academic institution.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Prior classes in molecular biology, genetics or biochemistry.
Some experimental laboratory experience.
JOB KNOWLEDGE
Fundamental Job Knowledge - Fundamental working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply in varied situations

JOB DUTIES:
70% - Essential - Perform computational and bioinformatic experiments using the CHG cluster Secretariat including data quality control, sequence alignment, structural reactivity determination and structure modeling.
20% - Essential - Maintaining an accurate lab notebook, attend lab meetings and present final results at the end of the summer.
10% - Essential - Perform basic cellular and molecular experiments including cell passaging, RNA extraction, reverse-transcription and PCR.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No Supervisory Duties - Not responsible for supervising employees.
BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES
No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department’s budget.
