Description New England Dermatology & Laser Center has been providing dermatology care to the greater Springfield community for over 70 years. We are growing and looking for a Pathology Laboratory Assistant with a conscientious work ethic to join our busy specialty practice. Primary duties include processing incoming and outgoing specimens, maintaining specimen filing system, assisting laboratory staff and pathologists, ensuring laboratory and surgical exam room supplies are adequate to provider need and performing general laboratory support duties. Schedule: Part-time Days Tu-Th 8:00a-5pm; 1-hour non-paid lunch daily. Overtime and scheduling flexibility may be required to accommodate operational needs. Location: In-person; Springfield pathology lab This position reports to the Manager, Surgical Center & Aesthetics. Licensure/Certification CPR Certification preferred. Experience 1-3 years prior work experience in a pathology laboratory, dermatology, customer service or medical office experience preferred. Proficiency with practice management, laboratory, EHR and Microsoft Office software programs. Knowledge of instrument cleaning/sterilization and care. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology related to dermatology and related disorders for dermatology related conditions. Verbal & written communication skills. Some in-person patient interaction. Internal and external client dealings require courtesy and tact. Ability to communicate with physicians and mid-level providers and external healthcare providers. Able to multi-task and perform mathematical calculations. Accurate spelling, grammar, punctuation and proofing. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to sit in a standard secretarial chair, use a standard computer, keyboard, monitor and mouse for extended periods of time. Ability to work under pressure to meet the standard 24-hour turnaround time. Routine work includes working with chemical/biohazardous material. All safety policies and practices are to be followed and are a condition of employment. Reacts calmly and efficiently in emergent situations. Laboratory results and data are confidential and must be shared on a need-to-know basis only with appropriate New England Dermatology & Laser Center staff or requesting laboratory.
