DESCRIPTION

The Jeurissen Lab at NYU’s Center for Neural Science is searching for a full-time laboratory associate to join their team. The person(s) hired will be involved in all aspects of animal care and husbandry, routine health care procedures, daily animal evaluations, general technical assistance to the veterinary staff and animal training.

Responsibilities include:

  • Behavioral training and testing of research animals.
  • Maintaining detailed and accurate logs about food and water intake.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
  • Interacting and coordinating with investigative staff and veterinary services staff to assure health and welfare of animals.
  • Assisting and interacting with investigative staff to meet their research needs.
  • Cleaning, sterilizing, handling, and preparing experimental tools.
  • Regularly inspecting the research facility to assure the highest quality of animal care and required sanitation standards. Monitoring to assure compliance with all animal care and facility maintenance procedures, standards, and guidelines.
  • Inspects facilities to assure compliance with relevant regulations, guidelines, and policies. Examines operations and procedures to assure efficient utilization of manpower, equipment, and facilities and to assure that relevant regulations, guidelines, policies, and procedures are followed.
  • Confers with faculty periodically to evaluate new equipment and methods.
  • Assists investigators with appropriate treatments for research animals.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $58,656 - $60,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor of science degree in neuroscience, biology or a related field is required.
