JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Department of Antibody Engineering is seeking a highly motivated Automation Specialist to join our Research organization on a contract basis. This position offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with automation engineers, bench scientists and informatics teams to develop, implement, optimize, and maintain cutting-edge automated systems aimed at accelerating the discovery of therapeutic molecules.

  • Collaborate with department members to identify opportunities for automating manual workflows.
  • Develop and test protocols on integrated laboratory systems and stand-alone liquid handlers.
  • Work closely with scientists to troubleshoot issues and provide technical expertise.
  • Coordinate with vendors to ensure that automated systems are performing at their best.
  • Create and maintain user operation guides, web page content, and other critical documentation.
  • Provide user training to ensure effective and efficient use of automation equipment.
  • Ensure that all automation systems are in optimal working condition through proactive maintenance and vendor engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S./B.A. degree in biology, chemistry, or related field
  • 1-3 years of relevant industrial experience, ideally in a drug discovery or sample management setting
  • Experience with laboratory automation systems, including liquid handlers (e.g., Tecan, Hamilton, or similar systems).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to resolve hardware, software, and protocol-related issues.
  • Familiarity with scripting or automation programming (e.g., Python, VBScript, or equivalent) is a plus.
  • Comfortable working in a multidisciplinary environment with engineers and scientists
  • Demonstrates ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced laboratory setting
