ABOUT THE JOB

The Lab Coordinator is a part-time position reporting to the Dean of the School of Science and Engineering and the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Under the supervision of the faculty from the School of Science and Engineering, the Lab Coordinator will work to organize and prepare lab materials, and to maintain and prepare laboratories and equipment used to support lecture and lab instruction in the sciences. This person will be responsible for ordering, stocking, preparing and maintaining all equipment and reagents for all School of Science and Engineering Laboratories.
Experience working in academic laboratories along with an interest in instruction and student interaction are required. Preferred qualification of a Bachelor’s degree in science. Significant experience working in academic laboratories will be considered as appropriate qualifications as well. The ideal candidate will have a passion for laboratory science and undergraduate education.

The School of Science and Engineering Lab Coordinator will contribute to this mission by engaging with and serving our undergraduate students inside and outside the lab as they provide best practice lab experiences, mentor students, and collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance and advance exemplary academics, spiritual growth, and engagement with the world.
  • Assist faculty with laboratory course design and testing as appropriate based on availability of equipment, reagents and resources, and advise faculty regarding revisions and updates to labs as appropriate based on student experience.
  • Responsible for making solutions, reagents, and media as appropriate, managing and maintaining equipment and overseeing all laboratory facilities for setup and take down of laboratories for General Biology, General Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Molecular biology, Organic Chemistry, and Integrated Physical Science labs.
  • Track usage of chemicals, specimens, safety, and laboratory equipment to ensure adequate supply of materials for exercises with minimum waste. Acquire chemicals, glassware, plastic ware, and other consumable supplies for science laboratories
  • Create and maintain proper storage and appropriate handling and disposal of organic and inorganic chemicals and biological wastes in accordance to regulatory requirements. Keep computer-based inventory of chemicals in the science stockroom and keep Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) of all chemicals in stock.
  • Complete additional responsibilities as determined by the Dean of the School of Science and Engineering.
