Yukon University is seeking a motivated and organized Laboratory Coordinator to support the operations of our research laboratories. This is a key role for someone who enjoys both hands-on lab work and behind-the-scenes coordination to ensure research activities run smoothly, safely, and efficiently.
About the Role
The Laboratory Coordinator ensures the effective day-to-day operations of the YukonU Research Centre laboratories. This includes overseeing equipment maintenance, inventory management, procurement of supplies, and adherence to safety protocols. The position provides technical support to researchers, faculty, and students by assisting with experiment setup, troubleshooting with equipment and other issues that arise, and maintaining detailed records. The Coordinator also develops and updates lab guidelines, delivers safety training, and works collaboratively with departments to support research initiatives and instructional activities. This role is essential in maintaining a safe, organized, and productive laboratory environment that supports the university’s academic and research goals.
What You Bring
A Bachelor’s degree in a science discipline (preferably chemistry) and at least 2 years of experience working in a laboratory.
Hands-on experience with lab equipment and maintenance, including electronic and mechanical equipment repair techniques.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Proven ability to work independently while also contributing to a diverse team.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
A strong understanding of lab safety procedures and inventory systems.
Proficiency in using computers and software such as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
Class 5 Driver’s License
WHMIS Certification
First Aid Certification
Consideration may be given to those with an appropriate blend of education and experience.
