Description POSITION SUMMARY: The Laboratory Manager works as a licensed medical technologist and provides the management of personnel and equipment necessary to the successful operation of the clinical laboratory; supervises laboratory employees performing various chemical, microscopic and bacteriological tests needed for diagnosis and treatment of diseases and answers or directs inquiries to ensure proper resolution. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides the direction of clinical laboratory activities to ensure proper specimen flow and delivery of reports. Along with the pathologist, assumes responsibility for the evaluation and selection of equipment and supplies; actively pursues cost improvement through effective analysis of items to be purchased and preventive maintenance procedures. Monitors quality control and survey findings and initiates appropriate action to correct problems or deficiencies, including evaluation of new equipment and methodologies. Assures compliance with standards required by governmental regulatory agencies and/or professional groups providing licensing and/or certification. Maintains statistical records necessary for institutional reporting. Provides for initial lab employee orientation and ongoing education. Develops and updates policies and procedures for the laboratory. Administers rules and policies of the Health Center pertaining to the laboratory. Develops and monitors Quality Assurance Plan for laboratory. Reports progress to the pathologist and sends a copy to the Health Center’s Chief Executive Officer. Initiates mechanisms to improve departmental efficiency and quality of work. Works as a licensed medical technologist. NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs other duties and tasks as assigned. GENERAL EXPECTATIONS: Be committed to the mission of the Bucksport Regional Health Center. Maintain confidentiality and protect the Center by keeping information concerning Operations, patients and employees confidential. Requires frequent contact with personnel of different educational and professional levels, inside and outside of the Health Center. Direct contact with patients most of the day. Participation in community activities as a representative of Bucksport Regional Health Center. QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED FOR POSITION: Experience and Skill Requirements: The following experience and skills are considered essential: At least five years experience as a medical laboratory technologist. At least three years of supervisory experience. Computer experience using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office software products required. Ability to communicate and present information. Ability to read, interpret, and apply clinic policies and procedures. Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities. Education Requirements: The following education requirements are considered essential: Registration as a Medical Technologist is required: ASCP, AMT, HHS or equivalent as determined by the pathologist/medical director.
