SUMMARY

Our brain tumor research laboratory is currently seeking an outstanding lab scientist to join our group as a Lab Manager. Successful candidates will have an MSc (+5 years’ experience) or BSc (+10 years’ experience) in Life Science with high levels of energy, willing to learn and help, self-discipline, sense of responsibility, organization and dedication.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Five years of relevant experience, with prior supervisory experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master of Life Science (+5 years of experience) or a Bachelor’s Degree in Life Science or related field with 10 years of related lab experience.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture techniques and animal work
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and laboratory management software.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities
  • Assists in onboarding new lab members and ensuring they are trained in lab procedures and safety protocols.
  • Supervises and supports lab technicians and trainees in their research activities as needed. Understands and routinely participates in mouse work (transgenic mouse models and xenografts).
  • Prepares in-house made common use research reagents.
  • Consults with faculty to determine equipment purchase priorities, condition of existing equipment, and scheduled laboratory activities.
  • Prepares and puts in place equipment and demonstrates use and care of equipment to research personnel in the laboratory.
  • Maintains lab organization, including inventory management and space utilization.
  • Maintains and updates the database and physical storage of new tumor and cell samples collected for the lab biorepository.
  • Assists in implementing and maintaining lab safety and animal use protocols, and other regulatory documentation and compliance reports.
  • Diagnose equipment malfunctions.
  • Arranges service calls for equipment and orders supplies.
  • Collaborates with other labs and core facilities within the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics, Baylor College of Medicine and the TCH Cancer Center as needed.
  • Manages primarily professional level employees, to include defining work responsibilities and prioritization in relation to their research projects.
  • Supports the Research Project principal investigators to ensure aspects of project delivery goal and objective are completed.
  • Trains and mentors existing new staff.
  • Assigns tasks and delegates work to research lab members via informal direct oversight.
