Summary: Exercises a high level of independence and discretion. Interacts with external contacts at professional level. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Hiring and training of Research Associates in surgical, multiple dosing routes, handling of multiple species. Personal management and development of RA’s, Husbandry and associated staff (Labor, room capacity/availability). Serve as Study Director Manage all in vivo studies, to include Toxicology, Efficacy, and Pharmacology from start of in-life to end. Purchasing and controlling costs. Order, administer and dispose of controlled substances. Monitor Sentinel program. Monitor rooms for bacterial contamination using RODAC plates. Conduct surgery (LAD, open Heart, invasive, hypophysectomy, etc.) in small to large animals. Develop new techniques and improve on developed ones. Write and review SOPs as required Model induction: diet-induced obesity. Heart disease, immunization, immunosuppression, infectious disease (viral and bacterial), stem cell biology, cancer biology, inhalation toxicology, ocular disease, dermal irritation, neurobiology (encephalitis, brain damage, stroke, etc.), nephrotoxicity, diabetes, thermal burn model, etc. Coordinate scheduling with multiple outside clients and vendors, and with internal CBI functions (e.g., histopathology, cell culture, quality assurance, HR). Prepare study calendars. Assist in development of project budgets. Other tasks as assigned. Job Qualifications: General Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s) required Bachelor’s Degree, Master or PhD. in a scientific field. Minimum of 4 years supervisory experience. Previous experience in animal research, CRO, biotech and/or pharmaceutical industry. LATG certification preferred. Concise written and verbal communication skills including knowledge of scientific vernacular necessary. Able to work in a fast paced matrix environment. Must be goal oriented and highly self-motivated.
