Job Title: Laboratory Manager – Materials Testing

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Laboratory Manager to lead our materials testing facility. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing day-to-day laboratory operations, ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. You will manage a team of skilled technicians and scientists, coordinate testing schedules, and drive continuous improvement across the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with ISO/UKAS standards and industry regulations.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop laboratory staff to maintain high technical performance and morale.
  • Plan and prioritise workloads to meet client deadlines and project requirements.
  • Oversee quality control, data integrity, and reporting accuracy for all testing activities.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained, calibrated, and fit for purpose.
  • Liaise with clients, project managers, and senior stakeholders to provide technical expertise and advice.
  • Implement and monitor health, safety, and environmental standards across the laboratory.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimisation, automation, and cost efficiency.

About You

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Materials Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in a laboratory management or senior supervisory role within the materials testing, engineering, or construction industries.
  • Strong understanding of testing methodologies for metals, polymers, composites, or construction materials.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Experience working in an accredited laboratory environment (e.g. ISO 17025, UKAS).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

Pay: £35,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
