ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in laboratory, warehousing or manufacturing industry
  • Experience or knowledge of laboratory or healthcare processes and standards
  • Experience with H&S regulations/standards
  • Experience in ISO15189
  • In depth experience of working at a supervisory/line management level in a commercial setting

Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of day-to-day pre-analytical and analytical processes.
  • Acting as first point of call to Pre-analytical Team Leader and Analytical Scientists.
  • Evaluation of potential laboratory staff, to include interviewing, selection, induction, appraisals.
  • Contributing to and writing reports for the annual management review meetings.
  • Monitoring of pre-analytical and analytical processes and personnel performance in order to meet and exceed sample TATs and laboratory KPIs.
  • Raising concerns in a timely manner to facilitate CAPA – in particular those relating to safety, KPIs and performance.
  • In alignment with the quality dept, perform risk assessments, internal audits and analyse results, proposing solutions.
  • Maintaining high productivity and motivation of all laboratory staff.
  • Leading daily team briefings.
  • Answer technical questions from internal and external parties.
  • Management of team HR, such as holiday, sickness, performance improvement plans etc.
  • Conducting weekly performance review meetings and regular One2Ones with laboratory personnel.
  • Dealing with high level problematic samples and kits.
  • Ensuring constant compliance with Quality Systems and ISO 15189 accreditation.
  • Conduct training and competency assessments for laboratory staff and ensure training records are maintained.
  • Scheduling and implementing operational rotas.
  • Ensuring the laboratory has sufficient staffing and resources, gaining approval for recruitment, overtime and/or flexible employees.
  • Adhere to procedures, policies and health/safety guidelines and promote a safety conscious culture.
  • Ensure that processes needed for the laboratory system are established, implemented, and maintained.
  • Report to laboratory management, at the level at which decisions are made on laboratory policy, objectives, and resources, on the performance of the quality system and any need for improvement.
  • Ensure the promotion of awareness of users’ needs and requirements throughout the laboratory.
  • Promote quality policy commitments and objectives.
  • Overseeing all acceptance testing for equipment, reagents and consumables, and ensuring the ongoing functionality of all equipment, including calibration and mapping.
  • Establish and schedule CPD opportunities for Laboratory Technicians and Analytical Scientist.
  • Ensuring CPD requirements are met and remain effective.
  • Driving continuous improvements in all areas of responsibility.
  • Act as a pro-active interface between the laboratory and other departments.
