LABORATORY MANAGER

Coffey Testing are the industry leaders for construction materials testing services. Our Geotechnicians are skilled in the delivery of aggregate, concrete, and soil testing services as well as complex specialty testing on soft soils, aggregates, and rock.
We are focused on quality, integrity and excellence in delivery through the capability of our people and we are looking for a Laboratory Manager to join our Rockhampton team who will demonstrate these qualities in their day-to-day tasks. The ideal candidate will be someone who is proactive in helping to expand our growth within the region and work to expand our key personnel and client relationships.
This role is well supported by the General Manager - QLD/NT, therefore is suited to a CMT Laboratory Manager or an experienced senior technician who is ready to take the next step in their career. Responsibilities

Our Rockhampton Laboratory has a large capability and capacity across concrete, soils, aggregates, which makes this position both challenging and rewarding. This position sits within our Nth QLD/NT region management team, and reporting to the General Manager.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Day-to-day management of the laboratory including organisation and delegation of field and laboratory work to staff, ensuring time critical deadlines and failures are appropriately managed;
  • Management of financial results achieving financial objectives in line with the budget and actively undertaking activities to ensure debtor days are managed;
  • Management of staff, including recruitment, training and development, workforce planning, performance management and application of the Enterprise Agreement.
  • Identifying leads, submitting proposals, client engagement and maintaining positive client relationships;
  • Manage compliance, quality management and continuous improvement; ultimately holding responsibility to ensure all tests are performed in accordance with NATA standards;
  • Lead a safety culture in the laboratory, actively promoting safe work practices, controlling environmental conditions and taking prompt action for any incidents or injuries that may arise;
  • Overseeing the performance of the laboratory in Quality and Safety; and
  • Building a high performing team, with a focus on positive workplace culture.
